Welcome 2019!

Happy New Year!

2018 is over.  Friends and family shared 2018 was a year of opportunity and accomplishment.  Others reported expectantly waiting for opportunities. Regrettably, none occurred.  New Year’s Day though a construct in time gives hope to the soul. Hope is important.  With it those receiving look to an even brighter future. Not receiving is an opportunity in itself.  An opportunity to reject the status quo and discouragement.  With each new day, a bit of faith and persistent action, things begin to change.

During my childhood, about the age of 11, I hoped to pop my gum just like the big girls.  I was a simple kid.  Chewing lots of Doublemint gum, determined to hear my gum pop, I held out hope.  Daily doses of encouragement came as “keep chewing and when you least expect it, it will happen.”

“I also encouraged myself.  I believed the people who believed in me.”

While jumping rope and listening to the other girls’ chant of 2-4-6-8-10-12…, the chant and the rhythm of a gum-popping sound kept tempo with each turn of the ropes.   What a joyous moment!  The gum popping happened effortlessly.  Like how a professional athlete plays his/her game. It was worth the months of faith and persistent effort.

At the start of this year, you may resolve to do this or that.  Stay aware that things happen for those who remain hopeful and active, that is persistent.  Have your best possible year.

Happy October 31, 2017

The Halloween holiday isn’t the only event of significance on October 31.  A number of notable things occurred in history on this date:

Martin Luther, in 1517, nailed a document, his 95 Theses to the door of the Catholic Church. Luther took this action after being told that priest were selling “indulgences”  to church members for the forgiveness of sin.  This frustrated Luther as members believed they no longer had to repent for their sins. History records that the church labeled Luther a criminal.  Furthermore,  anyone could kill him without punishment. I don’t know about you, but this has Halloween overtones in that this is a ghoulish story that was in no way funny.

The good news is that Luther died of natural causes after creating a German translation of the Bible.

Now, back to Halloween.  I look forward to October 31st because November follows and then December: Thanksgiving and Christmas. Yay!

How to Have Your Best Year Yet!

It’s March 2017. Why a Happy New Year message? Because for many, the high and honorable aspirations at the start of the year have diminished.

2016 was a mixed bag of opportunities and challenges. We’re three months into the year and opportunities and challenges still exist or await. Knowing this, smile even if you have to force it for now, adjust our attitudes, help others, and prepare to discover creative ways to move forward. Often it is easier said than done. Wouldn’t it be fantastic to look back on 2017 as YOUR best year yet?

Work through any challenges and changes that come your way. You can predict and prepare for challenges that are consistent with daily living: job stress, marital issues, career problems, family health concerns and your child’s educational needs. You needn’t journey alone. Why would you do that? Benefits occur when you associate with people who like you and want to help you get to a less challenging place. Caution: Be certain those surrounding you are supporters. Keep your distance from anyone who might undermine your efforts.

How can you live your dream?

Dream BIG! Be faithful to your dream everyday.  Nourish, feed, and care for your dream. Baby steps and big steps forward embedded in prayer, the support of others, and a continual view towards the future will drive your dream into reality. Remember, the dream is more about the journey than the destination. Learn to enjoy the journey.  This reminds me of starting a weight loss program. I had my dream of a healthier, thinner me. Yet my baby steps included fewer calories, more exercise, and UGH!  Just being honest. Yet, over time, I begin to feel better, want to work out and eat healthy food. My mirror began to show my dream taking shape.  As 2017 presents you with challenges and changes take courage. Reflect negative situations and doubts with action and a faithful attitude. Say out loud words that give authority to your dream and ignite your passion to keep moving forward.

Let me know how your year is shaping up!  Leave a response.

Happy Easter

Time to Blow the Dust Off Things Left Undone

Happy EasterThis is a time of rebirth. Daffodils and other spring flowers are awakening to a new spring. In church today, I heard how Jesus’ death reconciled many with God. The Christian resurrection story leads me to thinking about reconciliation in our personal lives. Is there anyone you need to reconcile with? What about restarting something that was positive and ignited your passion? This is the season for new starts. Speaking of new starts, consider reviving any resolutions you made in the New Year. Whether it’s a healthier lifestyle, to start a business, write a book, or to return to school, now’s the time to resurrect those things needing your attention.
