The Clock Struck Midnight

Happy Mother's DayHappy Mother’s Day text messages warmed my heart throughout the day. So much so that I sat pensive. I realized that I was loving the very moment that I’d become aware. It was perfect. It needed nothing and then it was gone. How often are you aware of the moment? Or a day that seems perfectly made for you? Imagine it. They are rare. Mother’s Day 2016 was that day for me.

And then the clock struck midnight. Life interrupted! Prepare for interruptions. Expect the unexpected. Finding a humane trap that prevented leaving her den, the skunk living under my front stoop when the clock struck midnight, filled my home with her wrath. She was spraying mad.

If you’re wondering why I’m sharing this skunk story, read on. Adapting to life interruptions can occur successfully when you become intentional about random life events. Review the following tips. Integrate immediately the tip that resonates with you.

Prepare

Know your threshold for interruptions, stressful situations, and mishaps that occur all too often. Particularly, if your emotions tend to run high. Prepare to coach yourself to manage the situation and not let it manage you.

Pause

Let me share something you may already know, but rarely do. A pause at the right time can change the atmosphere in a room or a life. Pause. Maintain your composure. Proceed with an appropriate response to the situation.

Practice

Life is a practice. We don’t always get things right the first time. God knows that some things we must repeat over and over s.

When life gets interrupted prepare in advance how you will respond, manage your triggers for negative responses. Without a plan, pause, then move forward. When life delivers a stink bomb, engage an appropriate response.
